There’s a reason you don’t see women in Patolas around you often. Well, certainly because women who choose patolas are the women in power, some ruling the business world or the politics but they’re not really around for us to see them.
This is exactly why, a saree like this takes immense efforts and time to come alive. This ikat patola has been hand woven in Gujarat, taking over 5 months for the beautiful hathi popat pattern to bring to life. The production is less, the time is more and as of now, while the number of women wearing or choosing to wear a patola is increasing, the availability of saree is scarce.
