Rajni (रजनी) — “night”

The black field with shimmering zari feels like a starless night catching light.

It’s a great pride for the weaver when his saree appears too perfect to be real. Rajni is that one saree.

She starts on a sleek, literally 2 ply sleek mulberry silk base. Following the midnight deep black colour. The weave appears like an infinite loop- you can’t see a single thread going into the saree or coming out of it.

You do see the saree sparkle with joy but can’t tell how that sparkle came onto it. The himroo is done with such finesse that the base itself is infused with molten zari, adding a slight shimmer, then engraved with mere perfection following a himroo weave. The reverse of the saree shows you a black canvas, telling you that there are no human errors of imperfections but that is only because the weaver gave this saree enough time to come to life in the most beautiful form.
